Hilary Duff leads the fresh ensemble of Hulu's new spin-off series How I Met Your Father, which is set to debut on the streaming platform on January 18.
The new series offers a gender-swapped take on the popular CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, starring Josh Radner as Ted Mosby.
The revamped Hulu version has been getting a lot of steam since it was first announced and we're finally getting close to its premiere date.
Here's what we know about the upcoming series.
The original show aired on CBS for 9 seasons, from 2005 to 2014.
Featuring a unique structure of storytelling, the sitcom became hugely popular and also well-received by critics. The series also won the People's Choice Award for Favorite Network TV Comedy and actors Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris both won for their respective roles as well.
While the show received critical acclaim for its earlier seasons, its final season didn't fare too well. The finale had a majority of negative reactions and was even dubbed the "Worst Series Finales of All Time".
Anna Kendrick has demonstrated her talents several times throughout her career.
In the new iteration of the show, Hilary Duff takes on the lead character Sophie, a charming New Yorker who will be telling her kids the story of how she met their father.
She is joined by a diverse cast, which includes Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Suraj Sharma, and Tien Tran.
Kim Cattrall plays "future Sophie" from the year 2050, who narrates the story of her love mishaps and adventures to her kids.
Aside from the more diverse cast members and the gender-swapped role, there are a couple of fresh new changes and challenges in this modern iteration.
For one, Tinder dating, something that wasn't available in the 2000s, will be a factor in Sophie's quest to find love, as seen in the trailer.
The format, however, still pays tribute to the classical sitcom, complete with a laugh track and familiar shots that will take you back to the original series in flashes.
The initial reviews are out and it seems like the critics aren't that impressed with the sampling of the first four episodes.
"In addition to trying to set up its own story and characters, HIMYF is struggling with the legacy of its past, while trying to fix the errors its predecessor made. That’s a lot to ask of any sitcom, and who knows if it will be able to pull this off in the long haul. But at least with these first four episodes, thanks to its appealing cast and plenty of promise, How I Met Your Father is off to a rocky, but auspicious start," Ross Bonaime of Collider wrote.
