Brooklyn Nets small forward Kevin Durant is one of the NBA superstars who are frequently mentioned in various trade speculations. When Kyrie Irving was still undecided regarding his future in Brooklyn, there were rumors that if he leaves the team, Durant would strongly consider demanding a trade from the Nets. Irving may have already opted into the final year of his contract, but there are still plenty of things that could happen before the start of the 2022-23 NBA season.

Once he and the Nets decide to part ways, several teams are expected to express a strong interest in adding Durant to their roster. One of the title contenders that could pursue Durant on the trade market is the Boston Celtics. In a recent appearance on Sirius XM NBA Radio, NBC Sports Boston analyst Brian Scalabrine came up with a hypothetical trade idea that would enable the Celtics to acquire Durant from the Nets. In the proposed trade scenario, the Celtics would be trading Jaylen Brown, Daniel Theis, three future first-round picks, and two pick swaps to the Nets in exchange for Durant.

A trade package that includes Brown, Theis, and multiple future draft assets could be the best offer that the Nets could get from trading Durant. The Nets may not have shown any sign that they are planning to move Durant this summer, but they would definitely think twice before turning down the proposed deal. Brown is one of the fastest-rising superstars in the league.

He would be a great centerpiece to the next title-contending team that the Nets will try to build in Brooklyn should both Irving and Durant leave the team. The three future first-rounders would enable them to add talented prospects or they could use them as trade chips to further solidify their core around Brown.

Trading all those assets for an injury-prone superstar like Durant would be a huge gamble for the Celtics. However, pairing Jayson Tatum with a healthy Durant would undoubtedly strengthen the Celtics' chances of returning to the NBA Finals and winning the NBA championship title next season. Durant would be a massive upgrade over Brown in the Celtics' wing.

Aside from having plenty of championship experience, Durant is a better scorer, rebounder, playmaker, and three-point shooter than Brown. Last season, he averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from beyond the arc.

While he looked determined to play another season with the Nets, Scalabrine thinks that Durant might be intrigued by the idea of joining forces with Tatum in Beantown.

“You get a chance to play with Jayson Tatum, a guy he’s played on for the Olympic team with him,” Scalabrine said, as quoted by MassLive. “They worked out together and stuff like that. There is a connection. It’s not crazy to think that something like that could happen. If, and only if, Kevin Durant decides I want to be out of here.”

Aside from Tatum, Scalabrine pointed out on Celtics Post Up that Durant was previously linked with Al Horford and loves Marcus Smart and Coach Ime Udoka.
